ZMF Celebrates a Decade of Inspiration

ZMF celebrated its 10th anniversary over two weeks at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin: June 26 to July 9, 2011. It featured 20 faculty and featured artists and 38 participants from 17 states across the U.S., Canada, Germany, Japan, China, Taiwan and Australia.

The public was treated to 12 concerts: nine by faculty, and three by ZMF ’11 participants. Festival participants attended more than 45 events over 14 days. One of the resounding comments among attendees was that everyone felt like family.

Participant Meghan McManus (Tampa, FL) described it a such a moving and wonderful experience. I truly felt the family vibe; it is really what music is all about.

Bailey Stewart (Salt Lake City, UT), said it was such an informative, inspiring, and all around knowledge gaining experience with a warm, welcoming, and family-like atmosphere: nothing but encouraging and supportive. All the faculty were so approachable. I wish it could have gone on longer! I can’t wait for ZMF in California in two years. Definitely count me in.

Hiatus in 2012 / Next is ZMF 2013

ZMF will take a break in 2012. Annual festivals will resume in 2013 beginning in a new location: Arcata, California (June 30 to July 13). ZMF 2013 will be co-sponsored by Humboldt State University. Arcata is in the northern part of the state, about 280 miles north of San Francisco, between the exquisite Pacific coast and redwood forests. It is also the world headquarters of Marimba One marimbas. We hope to see you there!
